Varvinter!!! The long bright days and frozen crystals must make an energy and serenity that’s so uniquely Scandinavian. I’m feeding my snow-hunger vicariously through you, Liz. We never get enough (any really) of it here in North Carolina. We have flower snow storms.🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸

Being born and raised and a native of NC until I moved to Sweden when I was 40, I know exactly what you mean! And I think my longing for snow all of my life prepared me for living in Sweden and loving all of the seasons here. But, I have to admit, getting used to April still being very wintry and no real blossoms like NC has been a journey. I think I've finally made it out on the other side and my love for Nordic spring has officially been born. :)

Flower snow storms! LOVE! 🪻🪻

Oh. Such gorgeous stories, Liz.

One day I *will* travel to the Nordic lands (there aren't many places left that tempt me from home these days, but there? Yes).

The light has really opened up these past couple of weeks here too. The energy feels bright and buzzy. I long for sunshine but actually may be more of a winter baby than I realised!

Scandinavia is so magical, I believe. I’ve visited all of the Nordic countries, except Iceland. But, even still, there is sooooo much more that I haven’t seen and explored. I hope you make it here at some point!

Bright and buzzy is the perfect description of May in Sweden. I cannot wait until that energy arrives. But, I am really understanding and enjoying the slow release of winter this year. More so than ever before.

Happy Spring days, Luisa! xx

Love this. And the concept of Varvinter is so true for this time of year! It’s always a slow and steady move into warmer weather isn’t it

It really truly is a slow arrival, Victoria. But, your later letter has really gotten me ready to release the last of winter and welcome the light and bright part of the year! xo

What a wonderful term, Varvinter. It’s been a beautiful but cold spring here in PNW. Cold springs seem to be the trend now. Nothing close to the snow you are getting but I am impatient to have warm weather. I appreciate your helping me to slow down and enjoy the spring however it arrives. Please enjoy that late sun! For the last couple years I have been trying to remind myself to pay attention to our late evenings NOW because by the time it gets to feel like summer the days are already getting shorter again. Sunshine is such an energy force that I never appreciated when I lived where it is in abundance.

I know exactly what you mean, Becca. The long, late, bright nights seem to come and go so quickly. I think last year was the first time I decided to start really soaking it in these nights as early as April, because, as you say, before we know it, the summer days will be getting shorter again. ☀️

Oh the PNW is such a mindblowingly beautiful part of the US. But, I’m sure that the temps are not quite as warm as often hoped. Where did you live before? I’m curious! 😘

This is just beautiful, it feels very much like we too in the UK are in Varvinter. The transition is slow and yet there is of course that imminence of the longest day just round the corner. The light evenings give me so much life! Blessings to you on this pink moon. X

I have been thinking about just that, Lauren. The fact that winter’s release is so slow and the longest day of the year is just some weeks away. The energy is so palpable now! Blessings to you, as well, Lauren. xx 🌸

Our transition into spring has also been slow this year, and I love it. I’ve truly embraced the darkness and coziness of winter, and I’ve been enjoying emerging from hibernation slowly.

Your photos are always so magical and moody, the Scandinavian vibes are palpable! Happy Varvinter! 💗🌱🌨️

Thanks for saying my photos are magical and moody - best compliment! Isn't it just soul-filling to slowly emerge with winter in alignment with the seasons? It brings such a deep meaning to every little thing, I think.

Enjoy your dose of summer vibes over the next week - I'm sure it'll be glorious!! ☀️
