Hello, you. Happy March! Can you believe it?
It’s just past 6:30 on Thursday morning. The sky is a gorgeous hombre-fade of blues, purples, and pinks as the sun rises. I can see the orange, firey reflection in the building to my left. I have a candle lit beside me on the table, only as a ritual now though, since I no longer need the flickering glow to brighten up my mornings. But, it marks this quiet, early morning time as sacred. My coffee sits to the right of my computer and my calendar lays open to March to my left.
I wanted to write to you for just a couple of minutes before I head off to work and into the busyness of the day. Just to connect, really. To catch up a bit. And to let you know that with this note, I’m reimagining my Winter Notes series into a Spring Notes series.
Back in the beginning of December, I started sending out little notes on sacred days or to mark certain festivals all through winter in the hopes of staying slow, mindful, and present through the season. What I found was that it was the perfect way to really be aware and move in rhythm with both nature and the holidays all winter long.
I ended my winter notes series on February 1st, on the ancient festival of Imbolc, when the seasons begin a subtle, quiet, barely noticeable shift. During February, as I stayed quiet and kept mostly to myself, I realized that I wanted to write to you all through spring, just as I had written to you all through winter. I wanted to give myself the space to slow down, once again, and take in all that the season of spring has to offer by writing to you.
So, I made a plan to do just that. And, now, here we are. Beginning our slow journey through the season of spring. The season of daylight, life, and rebirth.
Just as I did throughout winter, I will be sending little notes to you as we move through March and April, ending on May 1st - because then, we begin to transition into summer energy. But, for now, I don’t want to miss the magic of the sunrise, budding trees, blooming flowers, longer days, the warming sun, and the feeling of coming alive after a long, dark winter snuggled up inside.
So, no matter what you celebrate, no matter your religion or spirituality, no matter who you are, you are welcome to join me from today until the beginning of May. I’ll be sending out a little seasonal note every now + then, inviting us to celebrate a slow, soulful spring together.
We’ll move through Lent - a season of deep, earthy contemplation that is the perfect inner journey from winter to spring, follow the phases of the moon, cross over the spring equinox, welcome the light half of the year, reflect on celebrations of life and rebirth, watch the earth awaken and bloom, and, finally, shift into the season of early summer with the ancient Beltane celebrations of fire and activism.
These spring notes are the perfect time to simply drop into the slow unfolding of this season. To understand that waking + rising is meant to take some time. Even for us.
But, as the earth awakens in the northern hemisphere, and as we begin to slowly feel more alert + alive, we see that something new is being born. And, we are also invited to see what new life is waiting for us. This season is also our rebirth.
And, with that, I’ll end this first spring note. I am so happy to move with you, slowly and gently, through this season of wonder, life, and hope.
I’ll be in touch soon, dear one.
xoxo. liz.
