Seven Sacred Days: The Spring Series 🌸
Welcome to a new 7 day series to celebrate the arrival of spring!
It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.
- Rainer Maria Rilke
Hello, you. And blessed equinox/happy ostara!
Well, my friend, here we are. Winter gives way to spring, summer surrenders to autumn, and the wheel turns once again. Together, no matter where we are on this day, we all move from one season to the next. United by nature’s cycles, we are reminded today that we are all part of something bigger that cosmically connects us to each other and to the rhythms of life. And, in the northern hemisphere, we experience the life-giving truth that spring follows winter and hope is reborn once again.
Today is the spring equinox, one of the four solar festivals of the year. The long, cold, dark winter is officially over. We have now entered the light half of the year, where the sun reigns and life abounds.
I believe that these four solar festivals are holy, sacred days that help us mark the passing of time and the unfolding of the seasons throughout the year. They are the astronomical markers of each season, based on the earth’s proximity, tilt, and relation to the sun. On the solstices of December and June, where the sun seems to stand still for just a moment, we experience the darkest depth of winter and the brightest height of summer. The equinoxes of March and September, where the sun crosses our equator and the tilt of the earth creates a balance of day and night for just one day, mark the beginning of spring and autumn. But, it is not just the changing of the seasons that makes these days holy and sacred. Each solar festival is also a powerful, ancient celebration of the cycle of life and a lesson in how to live slowly and intentionally, filled with ritual, rhythm, and meaning.
Introducing: Seven Sacred Days - A series for the seasons
Back in December, around the winter solstice I created a series called A Deep December. Every other day I shared mini-letters throughout the month - for those of us longing for a slow holiday season.
So, as winter waned and the spring equinox approached, I began to think about how I wanted to celebrate and welcome the season of spring. And, soon an idea rose up from my soul. I wanted to take my December series and build on it. As I prepared for the upcoming spring, filled with all of the energy of rebirth, beginnings, and creativity, I decided that I would once again create a series of mini-letters - as a way to drop into the spirituality, energy, and meaning of the season.
And, then, I decided that I would make this a series for each of the seasonal solar festivals.
So, starting today, as a way to welcome the return of the light and the season of spring, I am going to write 7 mini-letters (sent out every other day) to help us slowly and intentionally align our souls with the new season. I will do the same at the summer solstice in June, the autumn equinox in September, the winter solstice in December, and then the spring equinox again next March. A whole year of traveling through the year together, marking these powerful, holy, sacred seasonal shifts in the earth and in ourselves.
Won’t you join me at my table, once again, for a few moments of quiet reflection as welcome the season of renewal, fresh starts, and the awakening of creativity as we move into the season of spring together?
I invite you to meet me right here, every other day (for seven days) for a slow, soulful, intentional beginning to the season of light, life, and rebirth.
This every other day ritual will be my way of embracing the new cycle of growth, celebrating ancient traditions of the season, and tuning into the rising, life-giving energy of spring.
Here’s my plan:
Light a candle. Make a cup of coffee or tea.
Gather at my table and settle in for a moment of silence and reflection.
Take a few deep breaths and center myself.
Tap into the energy of the day. Maybe turn over an oracle card and contemplate its meaning for the season of spring.
Then, write a short letter to you about the magic and wonder of spring - and how we can drop into the deeply creative and renewing energy of the season.
Here’s where how you can join me:
Light a candle. Make a cup of coffee or tea (or whatever you prefer).
Gather at your table or in a quiet space and settle in for a moment of silence and reflection.
Take a few deep breaths and center yourself.
Read the day’s letter from me to you.
Write, journal, or meditate for a few moments before you continue on with your day.
Well, I guess the only thing left to say is - Welcome! This letter is officially the first mini-letter of the Seven Sacred Days: The Spring Series. Yay! The last mini-letter will be sent on April 2. So as to not bombard you with letters and add greater stress to you (or to myself!), I’ve chosen to send them every other day. So, there will be a total of 7 mini-letters.
Alright. That’s it, my dear friend. I think that all I really wanted to do today was to wish you a bright, warm welcome to spring. And to invite you to meet me here over the next few weeks as we move into the season of awakening and growth. There is so much that I want to talk with you about!
Sending you tons of renewing energy and love. Until Friday!
xoxo. liz.
I loved reading your Deep December letter so I am even more excited for The Spring Series!
Looking forward to reading these. I've had a particularly long and tough winter so hoping for a kinder Spring
