A message from the last new moon of the year 🪽
A Deep December. Mini-letter #6
Hello love. It’s a magical day.
The new moon in Sagittarius is the last new moon of 2023. Falling on the eve on the 12th/early morning hours of the 13th, it is, in one way, the last and darkest night of the year, even if the winter solstice (the longest night of the year with the least amount of daylight) is still 10 days away.
The rhythms of the moon captivate me. They inspire me. It’s like receiving a message from the divine every time I look up at night. The moon is constantly changing, yet she does so, so very slowly that it’s hard to notice, even if I catch a glimpse of her every single night. When the full moon appears one night every 28 days, I am always surprised, overwhelmed, and taken back. And I find that totally crazy… because I’ve been tracking and peeking and following the moon all month long, gazing out the window or standing outside under the night sky. I have literally been watching the moon go through her phases, and yet, totally missed the process.
It’s the slow, but constant movement that is so magical, I think. It seems so sudden, and yet, it is so steady. Unfolding every single second. One night at a time. I can watch and watch and watch, and still only see the transformation and the rhythms of the cycle over time.
There’s a lesson in that for me.
I want to experience and watch and observe and be present in each and every unfolding moment. I want to trust the rhythms and the cycles of everyday life, but lay my deepest focus on the here and now and all of the quiet, unnoticeable moments that make up a month, a year, a life.
Today’s card is the Spirit of Air - again. Just like my mini-letter on Sunday, this one is another repeat from last week. The second time it shows up for me. What is going on here with these repeats?! I mean, I have 52 cards. And I have a whole ritual for drawing a card. I shuffle 3 times, divide the deck into thirds, take up the piles in random orders, and then, after a few minutes of meditation, I divide the deck in half and take the top card on the bottom half. What are the chances that within 6 card pulls I receive the same card twice, two times?! Dare I say, magic?
Clearly, there is a deeper message to be found in these cards. And going deeper in December is exactly what I wanted. So, I let myself sit with these repeat cards and try to dig deeper.
The spirit of air card, at first glance, doesn’t have anything to do with the last new moon of 2023. When I look at it, I feel a lightness, a sense of soaring and gliding with the birds and among the clouds.
There is a sense of peace and freedom way up in the air. A place where time is suspended and spirit lives. I feel this otherworldly, liminal feeling every time I gaze out an airplane window. I feel at home way up above the earth and I long for that higher perspective, the bigger picture of it all.
But, I also long to come back down to earth. To bring that fresh, new understanding and perspective back down into my own reality. Soaring in the air, making time to connect with spirit, Source, the divine, and my higher self always puts things in perspective. But, the real work is what happens right here in the messy, dirty, earthy day to day life that I live.
I don’t have to dig very deep to find the connection I feel today between the spirit of air and the dark, last new moon of the year.
The new moon (and full moons, as well) reminds me to set aside time to connect with the divine within and the spirit, energy, love, God, Source that connects us all. The cycles of the moon and the rhythms of the seasons are like the winds of change blowing in, marking a shift in energy. Drawing me downward and inward - where I can meditate and soar and glide and feel the lightness of my soul, my higher self, and the inspiration of the spirit.
But, these cycles and rhythms also draw me forward - guiding me in how I can bring that higher perspective, those mind-blowing, soul-inspiring moments into this earthly, real, authentic, mundane, everyday life.
I encourage you to take a few moments under this dark new moon, on one of the darkest nights of the entire year, to set aside some time to just breathe. To let the spirit of air flow through you. To meditate and to let your higher self take you high above the earth. To connect with spirit, soar with the divine, float with the breeze, feel the winds of change, and let yourself be inspired by the moonless sky and the winter night. Just breathe. And glide. Light as a feather. Connected to it all.
And, then, tomorrow return to your daily life. Inspired and rejuvenated and ready to continue to soak in the deep wisdom and magic of December. To let it influence and guide your everyday life so that you are so present from moment to moment that, come the end of the year in 19 days, you will be overwhelmed and amazed at how much has changed and how you have been transformed.
Keep it slow, love. And blessed last new moon of 2023.
xoxo. liz.
I really enjoyed this read. Love the air card - I think when you look at it in relation to Sagittarius energy where the moon in, its air meets fire. Air carries this fire. It is what helps ignite it. Air is vast. Its breath not depth. So vast & expansive!
I really enjoyed this read. Christina is a Sagittarius and she really needs to take the time to breathe. Kinsley is an active 17 month old. Christina has been faced with getting ready to have surgery on Friday. The doctors found two lesions on her cervix and it is cancer. They caught it in time but she will not be able to have anymore children
